about
I wrote this song over the course of a few months in 2017 when I was going through one of the darkest seasons I had ever been through emotionally. The lyrics for this song came from a journal entry I had written during that time when I didn't know how else to cope with the heavy depression that had taken me so quickly, but it quickly began painting a picture of how It felt to be drowning inside my own head desperately fighting for a breath of fresh air. I wasn't totally sure at first how to even approach these lyrics from a musical standpoint but when I came up with this ridiculous melody later on in 2017 I knew I had to put these words over it or they might never get used at all. I hope someone, somewhere, listens to this and lives to fight another day. Depression is seriously a living hell, and though I may not be out of the water yet, It gets more and more shallow each day.
lyrics
Ever feel like you're drowning,
Gasping for air in a panic for your own life.
The relief you need is just beyond your reach.
You can feel the surface break as your fingers,
Brush the open air.
But your desperate grasp is met with,
Nothing but the,
Nothing but the cold.
You've already begun to accept this as your home.
As your home, you've begun to accept it.
The chance at life grows dimmer and dimmer.
The water all around you grows colder.
You kick and scream but there is no one,
Within your reach.
As the desperate cry for help,
Departs from your lips.
The water, heavier now,
Pours into your screaming mouth.
Sound is lost in silence.
You can feel the surface break as your fingers,
Brush the open air.
But your desperate grasp is met with,
Nothing but the,
Nothing but the cold.
But you've already begun to accept this as your home.
As your home. (Sauce)
(The light fades into glowing shafts of radiant hope, once thought to be your escape. They dance and play on the water's surface, only bestowing the smallest fragments upon your now pale face. The rope tied one end to a millstone and the other around your neck. Your own mind, a weight, too heavy to carry on your own. What had you ever done to deserve such an end.)
